We launched Google.cn in January 2006 in the belief that the benefits of increased access to information for people in China and a more open Internet outweighed our discomfort in agreeing to censor some results. At the time we made clear that “we will carefully monitor conditions in China, including new laws and other restrictions on our services. If we determine that we are unable to achieve the objectives outlined we will not hesitate to reconsider our approach to China.”

These attacks and the surveillance they have uncovered–combined with the attempts over the past year to further limit free speech on the web–have led us to conclude that we should review the feasibility of our business operations in China. We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine within the law, if at all. We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.

The decision to review our business operations in China has been incredibly hard, and we know that it will have potentially far-reaching consequences. We want to make clear that this move was driven by our executives in the United States, without the knowledge or involvement of our employees in China who have worked incredibly hard to make Google.cn the success it is today. We are committed to working responsibly to resolve the very difficult issues raised.

Hi Jason,
Yumiko is saying that the wireless router is broken. What is the
story here. I know I have not collected rent from you. I don’t want you to
feel neglected!!!
cheers dr phil

Hi Phil,

Yes, the wireless router is broken, I tried 2 hours on Sunday with Andrew and Grant to figure out the problem, it seems the wireless module is broken. I don’t know the reason why that was broken(apparently, it wasn’t me who broke it), it worked fine the time when I left the house in April. The internet is working. I am not using wireless feature of the router, but wired connection. Last year I remembered people upstairs are using wired connection as well. They ran internet cables downstairs to the router. They said they are going to get a wireless but they want you to expense that.

I have my cheque waiting for you at anytime, you are welcome to come over and pick it up. I still remembered you said the rent will go up $20 to $300 per month which also includes the internet. So the rent would be $300 – $51.24 = $248.76. Probably you would say the internet is not working for them, so you are not going to pay me for the internet. I purchased the router for 90 bucks when it was on sale (was 120, now around $100 http://www.shopbot.ca/p-16860-1329645.html ), and I bought the modem for 99 bucks from Rogers plus ~$25 bucks service activation fee. So ya, I mean, I have the Internet here, and I’m willing to share the internet with them, and if they can’t get it, so that you don’t want to pay me the service fee, I understand it and it’s totally fine by me. (But part of my rent should includes the internet connection, isn’t it?)

Thanks, I won’t feel being neglected, and actually I want to talk to you a bit about the house and how to get people living here according to my experience in the house for 2 years and 6 months( probably the longest person who’s been living here) .

I spent 100+ dollars on cleaning the kitchen and buy kitchen wares last week, all the old dishes, pans, woks were all thrown away, everything is new and cleaned up. If I could, i would buy a new fridge just for myself. The fridge is so disgusting, I spent hours and hours cleaning it. I actually thought this is the first time the fridge gets cleaned. The bottom shelf of the fridge is broken as well, and I couldn’t manage to put it up. So now if you see the kitchen it would looks much more comfortable than before (except the old/oily cabinet and counter, I couldn’t clean those.)

I tried to sell one of the rooms for you, and last week, one of my friends came over and saw the rooms, she said the room is very good and bright, but the curtains’ broken/missing, the furnitures broken/old, and she really didn’t like the furniture, “they are too old, looks like they’ve been sitting there for hundreds of years”. So I think if the furniture in the house looks new (don’t have to be new), you (or I) can get people to live here. Furnitures aren’t too expensive, with 1 month rent ($300), I think at least one room’s furniture can be changed. If the rooms look nice, then you can have people to live here, its much better than just leave the room empty.

Some old furnitures/things need to be get rid of, like the bags/garbages in front of the washroom, some kitchen sinks/ washroom wares need to be changed as well, even though I cleaned them, they still look too old.

These are just a few suggestions, I’ve been here for 30 months, and paid at least $7,500 for the rent. I’m not complaining anything, and I am quite happy to live here, but I think it’s time to change a little bit. These are just suggestions which full of hopes that you can make the house better and get more tenants.

Thanks for reading.

Jason
